A daily dad habit, matched to your kid's age
Five minutes a day. One real moment with your kid. From the bump to age five.
Talk to the Bump
Spend 5 minutes talking or reading out loud to the bump — your day, a story, whatever is in your hand. It feels strange. Do it anyway.
Babies start getting used to voices before birth, and dads who get involved during pregnancy tend to stay more involved afterward.
Skin to Skin
Shirt off, baby in just a diaper on your chest, a blanket over both of you. 20 minutes, no phone. Stay awake the whole time.
Holding and skin contact are how dads build the bond that birth gives the other parent a head start on.
Name the Feeling
Next meltdown, get down to their level and name what they are feeling out loud: "You're angry the tower fell." Stay calm and close until it passes.
Hearing feelings named is how kids learn to manage them, and a calm dad nearby is how they learn big feelings are survivable.
Wheels Day
Twenty minutes on a balance bike, scooter, or bike — helmet on. Walk beside them, then let go a little more each round.
Learning a physical skill with you close, then having you let go, is how kids build the confidence to take on risk.
